Look At The Hole That Aramis Has Dug
Aramis Ramirez got the day off Wednesday when the Cubs defeated the Marlins, 4-3, in the conclusion of their three-game series at Wrigley Field. Tuesday night, Ramirez had gone 0-for-3 with a walk, which caused his season average to plummet to .159. How low is that?
In his six full seasons with the Cubs (2004-09), Ramirez has averaged 131 games played, 150 hits in 495 at-bats (.303), 29 HR and 98 RBI.
In order to reach those averages, assuming Ramirez has the 495 at-bats this year, he’ll have to go 130-for-369 (.352) with 26 HR and 83 RBI the rest of the way. To equal his HR average of 29, he would have to club one HR per every 14.2 AB; through last season, Ramirez had hit 173 HRs as a Cub or one per every 17.2 AB.
For comparison’s sake, in the biggest home run-hitting year of Ramirez’s career, 2006, when he banged out 38 HR, Ramirez only homered once per every 15.6 AB.
