Game #22: Nats 3, Cubs 2

From nine hits, four walks, and one opponent error, the Cub offense was able to generate but two runs in the finale of a three-game series with the Nats at Wrigley Field.
In the 5th inning, trailing by a run, the Cubs failed to score after loading the bases with one out.
In the 7th inning, still trailing by a run, the Cubs put men on first and second with none out and failed to score.
In the 8th inning, Marlon Byrd led off with a double, but the Cubs failed to score.
Incredibly, to me, coming into Wednesday’s game, the Cubs were second in the National League—trailing only the Brewers—in runs scored with two out and runners in scoring position; the Brewers had tallied 43 and the Cubs, 37.
The Cardinals, by the way, are currently 15th in that category with just 22 runs tallied, but I bet winning the division by 12 or 14 games is going to alleviate any embarrassment.
